Refund Policy

This Refund Policy describes AlphaSmith, Inc. [TBD: counsel input] (“AlphaSmith,” “we,” “us”)’s approach to refunds for paid subscriptions. It supplements our Subscription & Billing Terms and our Terms of Service. Effective date: April 17, 2026.

In plain English: use the Free tier as long as you want to decide whether AlphaSmith is right for you. If you upgrade to a paid plan, the charges are final. You can cancel at any time to stop future charges, but we do not refund fees that have already been billed. The narrow exceptions below cover billing errors, EU/UK statutory withdrawal rights, and card-network chargeback rights — none of which this policy overrides.

The Free tier is your evaluation period

AlphaSmith offers a Free tier that you can use for as long as you like, at no cost, to evaluate the product before paying. The Free tier exposes the core analytics for a limited number of portfolios and symbols and is designed specifically so you can decide whether a paid plan is worth it to you. Because an indefinite, no-cost evaluation is available, an upgrade to a paid plan is a considered decision on your part rather than a trial purchase. Accordingly, paid-plan fees are non-refundable as set out below.

Paid subscriptions: all sales final

Monthly and annual subscription fees for the Pro, Premium, and API tiers are charged in advance and are non-refundable. Cancelling a subscription stops future charges but does not refund amounts already billed for the then-current billing period. You retain full access to the paid features through the end of the period you have already paid for.

Annual subscriptions: no proration

If you cancel an annual subscription part-way through its term, you continue to have full access to the paid features until the end of the 12-month period you purchased, and no further charges are applied. We do not issue prorated refunds for unused months of an annual term.

Billing errors are corrected, not “refunded”

We promptly correct genuine billing errors because they are errors, not a change in the refund policy. Errors we correct include:

  • duplicate charges for the same billing period;
  • charges applied after a documented cancellation took effect;
  • charges not authorized by you (demonstrable fraud);
  • charges in an amount other than the then-published plan price.

Email billing@alphasmith.ai with the invoice ID and a brief description; we investigate within three business days and, where the error is confirmed, return the erroneous amount to the original payment method.

EU / UK 14-day right of withdrawal

If you are a consumer resident in the European Union, the United Kingdom, or an EEA member state, you have a statutory right to withdraw from a distance contract for digital services within 14 days of paid activation, under Directive 2011/83/EU (the Consumer Rights Directive) and the equivalent UK transposition. This right applies to any paid AlphaSmith subscription activated from these regions.

Under CRD Article 16(m), this right of withdrawal is lost once performance of a digital service has begun only if the consumer has (i) expressly consented to immediate performance and (ii) expressly acknowledged losing the right of withdrawal on full performance. Where AlphaSmith has not captured both acknowledgments at checkout, the 14-day right is preserved and a full refund is available on written request to billing@alphasmith.ai within 14 days of your paid activation. We do not otherwise condition or abridge this statutory right.

Credit-card chargeback rights are preserved

Nothing in this Refund Policy, our Billing Terms, or our Terms of Service purports to waive or limit any chargeback or dispute right you have under applicable law or under the operating rules of Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, or any other card network. Those rights are yours by statute (including Regulation Z, 12 CFR § 1026.12(c)) and by contract with your card issuer and remain unaffected.

We ask — but cannot require — that you contact us first at billing@alphasmith.ai before initiating a chargeback so that we can address a genuine billing error directly.

How to cancel

You can cancel at any time from Settings → Billing, which opens the Stripe customer portal. Cancellation is effective at the end of your current billing period. You do not need to email us, call, or speak to a person to cancel.

Statutory rights are preserved

Nothing in this policy limits any non-waivable statutory consumer right applicable where you reside, including rights under state automatic-renewal laws, no-refund disclosure statutes, and consumer-protection laws generally. Where a non-waivable right requires a remedy different from the one described here, that statutory remedy controls.
